What could be more beautiful than spring? For many people, it's an opportunity to turn their entire home upside down and do a thorough cleaning and decluttering.
But is spring cleaning your real hair extensions even necessary?
Caring for your extensions is a little different than what you might be used to with your natural hair. It's important that you familiarize yourself with the correct care for your extensions before you wash your hair for the first time and before you comb it through for the first time. There are a few things to consider to ensure your extensions have a long life. This will ensure that your new hair extensions stay radiant, shiny, and healthy for a long time – in exactly the same quality as when you received them. Real hair extensions are just as susceptible to split ends and breakage as the hair that grows from your scalp. The difference is that they don't receive nourishing oils from your scalp, and they don't grow back. So you need to provide this care from the outside.
To begin with, we'd like to tell you a little about the anatomy of a hair. Each hair consists of a shaft, which protrudes from the skin, and a root. The hair shaft is composed of three layers: the cuticle, the cortex, and the medulla. The cortex is where the chemical processes so important for hair coloring take place. This is also where the pigments that determine hair color are located. The innermost layer, the medulla, consists of keratin, the main component of our hair.
The right care must therefore target all layers and strengthen the hair from the inside out.
With Rubin Extensions, you not only get perfect hair, but also rich, extension-optimized care. It's important that you care for your new hair with more than just shampoo and other products. The right brush, heat protection spray, and proper hair-end care are also important. Give your hair plenty of love with your daily care. Brush your hair once or twice a day with a special Extensions brush It not only looks chic, it's also coated with a special anti-static varnish. The golden pins ensure that your hair is soft and smooth and doesn't develop static. The natural materials of this brush are perfect for caring for your extensions and your natural hair. Be careful not to apply too much pressure to the connection points when brushing. It is therefore best to hold your hair above the area where you are brushing.
If you're wearing extensions for the first time and want to wash them for the first time, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. It's very important that the connection points of permanent extensions, such as tape-ins and bonds, are allowed to dry for at least 24 hours before coming into contact with water. Even longer would be ideal. You shouldn't brush your new mane during this time. After this time, the connection points will hold securely, and you can, of course, do anything you like with your real hair extensions.
That was already a lot of information, but we have summarized some more tips for hair care for your extensions:
1. Moisturize daily
You should always have a Hair tip serum and a Anti-frizz product Use to prevent the ends from breaking. These products are a must-have for daily care. We have two products here that are perfect for your extensions.
First, there's the special serum from our Total Repair Care Collection. It provides rapid revitalization for all hair types and strengthens hair from within by filling holes in the cuticle, thereby smoothing the hair's overall appearance. It also protects your hair against heat, cold, UV radiation, and other environmental influences, preserving its natural shine for a longer time.
The second product is from our new Long Life Care collection and is an absolute revolution in extension care. The serum effectively protects your hair from split ends and, thanks to its silk effect, provides smooth hair and instant shine that lasts 24 hours. Special ingredients like argan oil and squalane protect your extensions from drying out, and your real hair extensions are protected from drying out in the long term.
2. Tips for washing your hair
As mentioned above, you should let the connection points of your extensions dry thoroughly before washing your hair for the first time. Then, comb through your hair with your fingers to loosen any large knots and brush your hair with your extension brush before washing.
Don't wash your hair with water that's too hot. You shouldn't wash it upside down either, but always use the shower water from above to keep your hair tangle-free. If your hair is longer than 50 cm, only wash it once or twice a week. The less the better, because no matter how well you care for it, washing it too often will dry out your hair. Cleanse your scalp with a gentle shampoo; try not to rub, or the extensions will tangle. You don't even need to wash your ends with shampoo; the water running down is enough to clean them. Rinse thoroughly and then continue with conditioner. Only use conditioner on the ends. Keep washing your hair as brief as possible to avoid drying it out. Our extension special shampoos from the Total Repair and Long Life collections give your hair long-lasting moisture without weighing it down and protect it from external influences thanks to the ideal combination of ingredients.
Next, you should gently dry your hair with a towel. Rubbing isn't recommended here; instead, use a terry cloth towel or an old T-shirt, which is gentler than a regular towel. With our Conditioner Spray You can simply comb your hair. But wait until it's a little dry and, ideally, blow-dry it lightly before combing.

3. Blow-drying extensions
Preferences vary; some people never blow-dry their hair, while others do it after every wash. The fact is that heat is damaging to your natural hair and your extensions, so you should always let your hair air dry. But if you're in a hurry and air-drying isn't an option, follow these tips to minimize damage. Remove tangles while blow-drying by running your hands through your hair. Once your hair is slightly dry, it will be easier to brush. Here, too, be careful not to use too much heat and always use a heat protectant.
4. Styling hair extensions
When using a hairdryer, flat iron, or curling iron, be careful not to expose the bonds to too much heat, as they can break loose in the worst case scenario. As mentioned above, heat protection products are very important to keep your extensions from drying out. Our Anti-frizz spray is the perfect way to protect your hair from split ends and environmental influences such as heat.
5. Go swimming with extensions
This isn't necessarily about care, but it's still an important point to consider when dealing with your extensions.
Contact with chlorine or salt water should be avoided, as it could damage your hair. Always try to wear your hair up or wear a swim cap to protect yourself from splashes. A chic updo is ideal for this. You can always create beachy waves afterward. The same applies to bathing at home—and be careful when using bath oils, as these can loosen the bonds in your extensions!
6. Dye the extensions
Change is a wonderful thing! We all need a change now and then.
The hair has already been lightened and therefore shouldn't be bleached any further. If you want to give your extensions a new look, it's best to use a tint. This gives your hair the desired color effect – but in a gentler way. Tints don't contain ammonia and therefore don't damage the hair. The color particles don't penetrate deep into the hair but wrap themselves around the hair like a coat, clinging to the hair's negative charge thanks to their positive charge. Tints work best in wet hair, and the color will appear even more intense if your natural hair color is on the lighter side. You can darken your hair 2-3 shades with a tint, but we don't recommend bleaching. Premium Line extensions still have an intact cuticle, which means they can be colored like your natural hair. This way, you can match them exactly to your hair color!
Read the package instructions carefully and test the color on a strand of hair first to see how long it takes to achieve the perfect result. Then you can color the rest of your hair. However, every color treatment causes damage to your hair, so it's best to keep it to a minimum.
